In memoriam - Pål Svendsen, MD. PhD. 1936 - 2015

Pål Svendsen, founder of NSVA, sadly passed away on June 13th 2015 at the age of 78. Dr Svendsen was born in Tromsø, Norway, and did the first part of his medical studies in Graz, Austria. He completed his medical training in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he continued to spend most of his professional career, specializing in interventional neuroradiology. In 1977, Dr Svendsen did a PhD thesis on traumatic intracranial lesions and later spent a two year post doc fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

In the 1990’s Pål Svendsen took the initiative to form a small network of colleagues with an interest in vascular anomalies. Over time, representatives from other centers in the Nordic Countries joined the meetings, and in 2009 the Nordic Society for Vascular Anomalies was formally established.

We will remember Pål Svendsen as a pioneer in his work and a highly respected expert in the field of Vascular Anomalies. He was a clinician at heart with vast experience in interventional radiology. Pål Svendsen was a modest and kind colleague and friend who was always available for advice and discussions when needed, and we will all miss him.
